Another
Friday took a long time to get here, didn't it?
Last night after we walked the dogs I productively cleaned the house and did laundry, so that the entire weekend can be devoted to doing the following: painting, catching up on emails/phone calls (both of which I am sadly behind on, and I am sorry), watching Halloween nonsense with my husband, possibly seeing a movie, possibly carving a jack o'lantern, and doing blog-related things.
Hey! My husband is getting a story published in a national journal, and it's a distinguished one, and he kicks ass. I'm so proud of him. I'm happy that other people will get to enjoy this work. Also, he kicks ass. I'm glad that while I paint this weekend he is going to write, because we both need to Do Our Things.
And, because I am lame, that's all I have for this post. Oh! Except, I really liked last week when I asked you questions, and you all answered, and I got to be even more reminded of how awesome you all are. Wanna play again? Let's play again--it's Friday and a full moon! Both good reasons to do this, probably.
Tell me the following: what, in your opinion, is the worst nut out of all the nuts? Also, tell me if you make your bed, what you had for dinner last night, and what you are doing this weekend.
Like last time, I'll go first: I hate cashews. Don't gasp--I HATE them. I hate how they taste, and I think they have the worst texture of any nut ever--too chewy. Or knotty. I can't explain it eloquently, but I can tell you I find cashews to be repulsive, and I don't understand why everyone lurrrrves them when they are so! Gross! I usually don't make our bed, unless you count sort of pulling up the comforter partway as making the bed. And that shouldn't count at all, I know. However, I make the bed when I clean the house, so everything can be clean all at once. Last night for dinner I ate a tasty cheeseburger my husband made. I consumed it during a house cleaning break. I ate part of it standing up, and part of it sitting down. I put ketchup and mayo on it, because I am gross. That's all I had--no sides, because I was feeling queasy and motivated to keep cleaning. And I already told you what I'm doing this weekend, up at the top of this post.
So!
Let's go!
27 Comments:
YAY, Published J! He DOES kick ass!
I LOVE these little questionnaires you're doing. They = fun.
1) The worst nut is those peanuts with the thin dark skin on them. The skin sticks to the back of my throat, and gets in between my teeth, and also it's SKIN! ick.
2) I make my bed if I need a flat surface to fold clothes or photograph something, or if we have people over. Otherwise, not.
3) For dinner last night I had leftover chicken that I baked with Caesar dressing and parmesan cheese and ate with a baked potato and some sweet canned corn. And a glass of milk. Mmmmmmm.
4) This weekend...I am not sure. Watching season 2 on DVD of My Name is Earl, that's all I know so far.
That is so exciting for J! Tell him congratulations!
1. I don't like almonds. At all. Neither alone nor cooked with food. And if you want to see me fight the urge to vomit, present me with an Almond Joy. Almonds + Coconut = Armageddon.
2. I do make the bed. Every day. Then the cats sneak under the comforter to make large Cat Mountains.
3. I was at a work-related dinner last night, so I had steamed asparagus, rosemary chicken, herbed potatoes, and wine (white).
4. This weekend is Chore Weekend: get my oil changed, change my name on my driver's license, run to Target, get groceries, mow the lawn, rake leaves, move all my planters into the shed, and maybe go to Old Navy to look for some sweaters.
TGIF!!
I didn't get around to playing around last week, but I'll join in this time!
1- I think most nuts are the worst nuts. I hate nuts. I do like peanuts, but only like Just Peanuts for a snack, salted or honey roasted (mmmm...) not in or on things. I will turn down even the best fresh brownie in the world if there are nuts in it.
2- I also only make my bed if I need it as a "laundry station" or if we are having company.
3- We had toasted ravioli last night. With salad. Only I never ate the salad, I only filled up on the raviolis.
4- My parents are in town visiting and if it stops raining we're going to take the kids to a pumpkin patch. If not we'll go to the grocery store "pumpkin patch" because we have got to get carving this weekend!
Sounds like you have a nice busy-enough-but-relaxing weekend in store. Have fun!
I love questions!!!
Ok, here goes:
1) Walnuts are icky. Not only do they look like little mini brains, they also have the worlds most oilest texture for a nut ever. And they dont' crush, they just sort of smoosh. blech.
2) No making of the bed in this household unless I want to impress my husband. I only use a bottom sheet, too. The top sheet always get smooshed to the bottom of the bed and sucks.
3) I made a roast beef in the slow cooker yesterday. YUMMY! I served it with garlic bread and baked potatoes. I had a bag-o-salad in the fridge but sometime between buying it last week and remembering it this week, it went mushy on me.
4) We are taking the minions to a pumpkin patch!
1. The worst worst worst nut is a brazillian nut. It taste like cheese and nuts should not taste like cheese.
2. I don't make my bed. The only time it is every made is when I clean the house or change the sheets or company is over. Poor unmade bed.
3. For dinner last night I have a peice of a frozen cornmeal crust pizza with tomatoes and feta. Not very exciting.
4. This weekend I am going to do yoga, clean my house and go to a halloween party as God. Not much of a stretch for me since I know everything and I am always right.
apparently I don't check my comments for spelling or grammar.
I love these questionnaires, too. So fun! And it gives you a "pre-prepped" comment! No searching for something interesting to say! Yay! Okay, enough exclaimation marks.
1. The worst nuts are walnuts and macadamia nuts. Both have a terrible flavor and are added to desserts to make them inedible. Ick.
2. I never make the bed. Ever. If company's coming over, I close the bedroom door.
3. Um, a chicken sandwich and cheese tots from Sonic. MMmmm....cheese tots.
4. This weekend we are getting together with some friends from VA. The girl and I sort of work together (she works in our corporate office and I work in a branch office) and their parents live in NC. So we're meeting up with them while they're in town.
Yeah for J! That's awesome.
Ok, on to your fun questions.
#1 Walnuts. I can eat them, but they're not my fav.
#2 Yes, I do make my bed most days. Although I never got around to it today. Darn, now I feel like making it. So, yes, I make it.
#3 Last night was leftovers. I had peachy picate chicken with rice AND mac & cheese. Strange combo, but it was clean out the fridge night. I think Matt had meatloaf too. Later we had crab ragoon for a snack. Yum.
#4 Saturday, I have Christmas choir practice at church in the AM. Then probably just staying home the rest of the day. Sunday we have church in the morning, naps in the afternoon, then small group in the evening at our new friends' house. Should be fun. :D
Maybe you should have Friday Questionnaires for us. Or you can just make some up for me b/c I'm always at a loss.
1. Worst nut = walnut, unless they are baked in brownies, then I can manage.
2. I only make our bed daily b/c we're trying to sell the house. On a "normal" basis, I may pull the covers up but that's about it b/c I am lazy. I like how the bed made up looks, though, and maybe I should just keep the habit.
3. I had a fried chicken salad from Zaxby's last night.
4. We had a Halloween cookie decorating party today, tomorrow is Halloween costume party at Gymboree, then I think Sunday, if it doesn't rain, we're going to our local Festa Italiana where we can eat some yummy food.
Ok, the worst nut, by far, is the walnut. They are disgusting and make me want to vomit. They ruin any food that they’re in. I loathe them.
I never make my bed. Ever. All we even have on it are 2 comforters plus the fitted bottom sheet, one for each of us because we are both blanket hogs. All sheets and extra blankets do is find themselves in a tangled mess, so why even bother.
For dinner last night, we had hot dogs and beans. I cooked the hotdogs on the broiler and covered mine in ketchup and mustard. I crisped up some fresh bacon on the beans. It was delicious.
We are doing halloweenie things this weekend. Carving pumpkins, driving almost an hour to this farm whose bakery has the much coveted pumpkin chocolate chip cookie, further setting up our living room, and then I have a baby shower on Sunday, which is my favorite kind of all the showers out there. Then I need to find time for getting groceries and Halloween candy.
Also, I love ketchup, mustard and mayo on my cheeseburgers. Wouldn’t have it any other way.
Have a great weekend!
1. While I love most nuts, cashews are the one I could easily live without. I don't *hate* them, but they're not my favorite, and I will pick around them in mixed nuts.
2.I try to make the bed every morning because it's amazing how a made bed can make even the messiest room look a million times neater. This is not, however, always possible because with six cats in the house, it is inevitable that one of them is in the way and the House Rules of Cleanliness clearly dictate that the comfort of the cat comes first (try it - it's an awesome excuse!).
3. Dinner last night was Burger King, alas, because we had about five minutes to get somewhere.
4. This weekend we're meeting with a contractor to discuss kitchen remodeling (I am so giddy about this I cannot stand it!), plus there is a Halloween party, for which I still must go find costume parts.
I am not sure if I have commented yet, but I think I linked here from Swistle.
1. Those giant nuts. I think they are called Brazil nuts. Barf. They are big and waxy and taste like they should have been left on the tree.
2. The bed never gets made besides for when we change the sheets and when we have guests over (because who knows when you will give a tour of your house and they will see your bedroom). So basically they get made about every week.
3. Dinner last nite was steamed shrimp, boiled red potatoes and garlic, and salad. Wow, that sounds really boring now that I read it. But I did have brownies with peanut butter chips and glaze for breakfast so I had to be healthy.
4. I am doing absolutely nothing this weekend, but my husband likes to come up with projects all the time so who knows.
1. Brazil Nut: too big, and also, weird. Also, they never come out of the shell nicely. Runner up: raw hazlenuts. Yes, I like them in Nutella, but the raw version is just sort of grainy and bitter, with lots of odd fiber that probably should have stayed in the shell.
2. My name is Melospiza, and I am a bed-maker.
3. Soup made from 1/2 one of those human-infant-sized zucchinis; the main purpose of this soup was to allow me to throw the other half away with minimal food-waste guilt. Also rolls. Also the last of the *fantastic* Oatmeal Scotchies.
4. Sigh, the weekend. Read. Rake. Go to the Pumpkin Farm. Finally watch that Netflix movie we have had for two months so now it has become the $10.00 rental (the movie is "The Departed"--bleak, bloody, and complicated. Any wonder I can't bring myself to watch it?)
Congrats to J! A published arthur!
1. I hate the flavor of hazelnuts. No reason. I just do.
2. I make the bed every day. Because we have this cheap cotton Indian bedspread thing that goes on top of the made bed that collects the weekly pound of cat hair that I would otherwise be breathing in at night.
3. For dinner last night I had spinach pie and a salad. And ice cream for dessert. I just can't break the ice cream habit.
4. This weekend I am going to continue processing the 400+ photos I took at my sister Baby's wedding. So far I've done 6, and we got home Monday night. Maybe it will be a 10th anniversary present. I will also mop the kitchen floor, change the sheets, and watch Mr. Pi suck up leaves for the compost pile.
Congrats to J! That is AWESOME!!!
I am glad you've freed up some time for you and your things this weekend. Whew!
Oh, Melo - I love, love, love "The Departed!" It is really violent, though.
Ok:
1. Peanuts. I like peanut butter, I even like crushed peanuts on top of my thai food. But just to snack on? Gross. And I hear ya, Swistle. That skin, film yuckiness? eeewww.
2. I make the bed for spurts of time, then I can't be bothered for spurts of time. I throw the comforter up to the pillows in an effort to keep the dog hair of the sheets.
3. I ate leftover "ham and cheese wedges"; it is a strange baked thing that is actually very yummy and super cheap to make.
4. This weekend: working (boo!), revising chapter one of my thesis to turn into MY NEW ADVISOR, and watching the Rockies wake up and kick some Sox ass. And catching up with you!!
This IS FUNNNNNNNNN!
1. I like nuts. All nuts, except sweaty ones. *chuckling like a dorky fool*
2. I try to make our bed and the twins' beds, but if I don't get to before noon, then I skip it.
3. For dinner last night I had Chicken Tortilla soup with blue chips. Spicy! And yummy!
4. This weekend- not sure. We have lots of things we could do, just haven't made a plan yet...
Congrats J! That's awesome.
Congrats to your hubby, that is awesome!
1.) Yes, Friday took FOREVER to get here
2.) I'm not so fond of plain peanuts. They're good if they're honey roasted, but plain are just gross.
3.) I try to make my bed if I leave enough time in the morning, which is about every other never, but I also do it if i'm cleaning the house.
4.) For dinner we went to Mimi's cafe, a french bistro type place and I had an AMAZING grilled cheese sandwich with french onion soup. So good!!
5.) This weekend we were invited to a costume party. J is wearing camo pants w/ a black shirt, I'm wearing a camo shirt w/ black pants and we will going as Upper & Lower G.I. Hehehe.
I don't think hazelnuts belong in "mixed nut" company. They belong as flavoring for coffee.
I do not make the bed. I couldn't care less about having an unmade bed, most days. I'm not there, I don't have to look at it. (Yet I'm somehow ashamed of this, too.)
For dinner we had -- LAMENESS -- fish sticks, because the 3-yr-old loves them, and vegetable soup from a can. Well, *I* had delicious pumpkin corn soup but my 2 picky eaters had the cheap stuff.
This weekend: Day trip to the mountains to see some "fall color", then brunch on Sunday with a friend. And hopefully get something productive done around the house....?! What? Doubtful.
Love the quizzes! :)
Yay for J being published! That is so cool!
1) I don't like hazelnuts: never have, never will. Which means most sorts of European chocolate are right out, since they don't seem to have a no-hazelnut option. :/
2) Make the bed? Why would I do that?
3) Dinner... um. I had a whole-grain bagel with omega-3 peanut butter. Because I am pathetic.
4) Random chores: flu shot, recycling, groceries. Maybe I'll get to knit a little. :)
I MEANT to answer this yesterday, but I got side-tracked with my watching-movies-and-crosstitching-while-the-youngest-was-taking-her-nap thing, and never got back online. Ah well.
1. I am not a fan of macadamia nuts. I'll eat them if they happen to be in a cookie, or crushed and used as a coating on fish, but alone? Ick.
2. I always have the best INTENTIONS of making my bed. But then my husband is the last one out of it--and HE doesn't make it. And by the time he's out of it, I've moved on to other menial chores and forget all about it. Poor bed.
3. Friday night is pizza night. And woe to me if I even attempt to MENTION anything else.
4. Weekend? Last night we went to a little Halloween party the school puts on (fun!). My oldest has a violin concert today (still deciding whether or not we're going since her level is only performing two songs, and she doesn't really know them that well). And we're going to attempt to go to the pumpkin patch. AND my husband PROMISES that the mulch pile--which has been there since JUNE will be out of the driveway this weekend. I'm not holding my breath.
Exciting, no?
And how exciting for J! Congrats!
1 - I hate the softer nuts, like walnuts and pecans. Unless they're candied. And pecan pie is good. But plain or just roasted and salted, walnuts and pecans get the thumbs down from me. Walnuts get a stronger thumbs down.
2 - I make my bed when I change the sheets. That's it, the only time.
3 - For dinner last night we had meatball sandwiches with homemade meatballs that were leftover from Wednesday night's spaghetti & meatballs, garlic cheese bread and salad. But I see you wrote this post on Friday, and that was Friday's dinner. So, Thursday's dinner was a bag salad with some bagged baby carrots thrown in and topped with the meat from a rotisserie chicken. Convenience at it's finest. :)
4) Well, since we're well into Saturday at the moment, I can tell you that so far we have been stuck inside watching the rain pouring down. We would like to go get our pumpkins and do the carving thing, but the rain looks to have no end. My husband is currently clearing the driveway drain because the water is getting dangerously close to flooding the garage, which will then flood our house. What? I should help him? I already showered, thanks. ;)
Are you going to tell us the journal and the story so we can read it? Though I guess that would sort of destroy the whole Internet anonymity thing.
delurking...Hi! I have been reading you since Swistle pointed me here.
1)what, in your opinion, is the worst nut out of all the nuts? - Those giant ucky ones in the can of mixed nuts that taste like ass.
2) Also, tell me if you make your bed - almost always make my bed because I like the way my room feels when I run and hide from my 5 kids in it and the bed is made and everything is clean and smells good...its the anti-chaos
3) what you had for dinner last night - I went out to eat with just my husband and the baby because the older kids were elsewhere and we had oysters on the halfshell with horseradish and lemon and cocktail sauce, fried shrimp, scallops and a beer. We were having a great time and laughing and giggling. It was so good.
4) and what you are doing this weekend - I baked some muffins, gonna paint a pumpkin, gonna keep trying to knit a pumpkin hat even though I suck, hope to watch a movie
(1) I would have to plump for walnuts as being the worst nuts in the world, ever. They are bitter, foul tasting wastes of slow-release energy. The texture leaves a lot to be desired and, well, they're just too damn big to fit successfully into your mouth in one go. When snacking on nuts, I don't want to have to take two or three bites per nut! There is only one acceptable place for a walnut - atop a walnut whip! And even then, they should be removed before consumption of the delicious chocolatey whipped portion of the snack!
(2) I hardly every make my bed. The only time I will is when the apartment has become so messy that I need to find one tidy oasis in the maelstrom of mail, clothes and dishes. A made bed is the easiest solution.
(3) Last night's dinner was fish fingers, baked beans and potato waffles. Delicious and nutritious!!
(4) This weekend I will attempt to catch up on sleep; fail. I will take the massive pile of cardboard, beer bottles and tin cans to the recycling centre and will probably spend hours of my life hoping ANYONE will say hi via my blog, or facebook.
Walnuts are the worst nuts. Ick. Peanuts are the best, because they turn into creamy peanut butter, with the help of all sorts of unhealthy things.
I never make my bed unless I just put fresh sheets on it.
Last night for dinner, I had ordered-in Mexican food to celebrate the coming of the weekend, even if it means the end of fall break.
This weekend I am trying to catch up on all of the readings/papers/research I should have been working on through the whole week. Sigh.
Okay, I missed this post because I was in Austin, but I want to comment anyway. First of all, congrats to J! Because that is amazing and so exciting! To answer the questions, I hate pecans, but not passionately. I almost never make the bed. And I went to Texas this weekend for a wedding.
Pine nuts! They suck and taste like nothing and are way overused, in my opinion.
It's a version of bed making designed to keep the dog off the sheets. A lot like your pulling up of the comforter.
Grilled tilapia, salad, and fried potatoes at a friends house. Oh yeah, and THREE pieces of pumpkin pie.
Looking at houses. We are venturing into the home-buying/selling market once again.
