Quiz
Last weekend we were eating dinner while listening to our painstakingly created Halloween mix CD, and "Gone Daddy Gone" started to play. Because my husband likes to torture me by displaying my music ignorance, obviously, he asked if I knew who was singing the song.
"...Eddie Izzard?"
He laughed. "That's not even a musician! He's a comedian."
"Oh."
"Violent Femmes. Do you know what else they sing?" I paused, thinking hard, and because I am awesome, could only come up with something vague and cloudy in my mind about hands and maybe a beach or sand or wearing flip flops. So I just shook my head. He prompted, "Blister in the Sun?"
And then I felt relieved, because at least I thought of hands.
It's Friday! I'm exhausted! At six this morning I argued that it couldn't possibly be six, and it MUST actually be four, but I was wrong! Also, somewhere in the basement we have a frog. A frog! Also, Cab wasn't actually vasectomied, he was neutered, but wherever he was, they never took his stitches out and they got all grown in and infected and swollen, so it looked like he still had his stuff, and also, poor dog. That was probably pretty awful. So yesterday they got them out and cleaned him up and gave him a bath and a heartworm test and he gets to take huge antibiotics for ten days, I assume to help with his junk and some old flea bites that are infected and maybe with the kennel cough. (I really know how to pick out pets, right?) Last night he chewed through a power cord and this morning he ran out the front door and he's really very bad. But I worried about him all day yesterday while he was at the vet.
And! Even though I'm taking my mini-blogging break, I told you I would come ask you some questions, because I think it is f-u-n. How tidy, exactly, is your linen closet? Also, do you wash your hair first or last in the shower? What are you doing tonight? And what position do you sleep in?
Our linen closet is pretty much a huge mess, because it is tiny and I am lazy. Things are mostly delegated to shelves, but I'm a notorious sheet wadder instead of sheet folder, and I keep the towels separated by "towels that I like to use" and "towels that I don't want to touch me, ever." Things are shoved in too tightly, and it is hard to deal with, and I want to clean it. When I get in the shower, I wash my hair first (and it takes a long time to rinse it all out), then I condition, then let the conditioner hang out while I do the rest of my washing/shaving/standing in the water and wishing I didn't have to get out, ever, routine. This order can not be changed, for any reason. Tonight I think we will probably sit on the couch a lot, and maybe watch a movie, and hopefully go to bed early. Because I=cool. I think I sleep mostly on my right side, but also a lot on my left. Also a lot on my back, and sometimes I wake up sprawled out on my stomach, and sometimes I sleep in a tiny ball in the middle of the bed so that my husband is falling off. What I am trying to say is that I am a thrasher in bed, and sleeping is exhausting.
Now, go!

Oh, poor Cab! I'm glad he's on the mend, although I'm frightened by the possibility of how much MORE trouble he can get into when he's feeling 100%.
Our linen closet is pretty tidy linen-wise, but we have three huge plastic bins holding all our extra toiletries, and they are a disaster. No matter how often I go through them, they keep growing and growing and growing.
I wash my hair depending on what I'm doing. If I'm shaving, I'll wait until last to wash my hair because I hate having wet hair drip into my face when I'm leaning over to shave. If I'm not shaving, then I wash my hair first.
I'm not sure what I'm doing tonight, because Jason doesn't know how late he'll have to work. Tonight is Pizza Night, so I hope he comes home at a normal time. We'll probably catch up on the TV we missed and play cribbage and gin rummy. We're wild!
I have to sleep on my right side whenever Abby's on the bed. This sucked last night because she stayed on the bed ALL NIGHT. Today my back is sore and I have a raging headache. I totally blame her.
Wow, poor Cab! That is really crazy. I hope he feels better soon.
Our linen closet WAS tidy and organized by sheets, blankets, bath towels, kitchen towels, etc. Now it's a bit more of a mish-mash but it's still pretty easy to find everything, so I'm okay with it.
I wash my hair first in the shower, and I let the shampoo sit while I wash my body, and then I rinse and put in conditioner and let that sit while I shave.
We don't have plans for tonight but our weekend is pretty busy so we'll probably just hang out on the couch and go to sleep early. We are almost as cool as you, you see.
I always sleep on my back, preferably with my arms halfway over my head so my elbows stick out. Torsten sleeps on his side and gets a lot of elbows in the back during the night, which for some reason he does not appreciate.
1) My linen closet secret is that as often as possible I try to wash the sheets and towels and then put them back on the beds/racks. Less folding. But what's left in the linen closet stays pretty tidy, as long as I remember to put the Cat Towel over the other towels.
2) I wash my hair first, then rinse and put conditioner on, and I let the condition sit while I wash and shave. Then rinse conditioner and rest of self.
3) Tonight we are watching a disc of Avatar The Last Airbender, an I will be trying not to let the number of blog posts in my reader pass the 100 mark.
4) I sleep somewhere between side and tum.
Poor pup. I hope he heals quickly and correctly this time!
Anyways, here goes:
The state of my linen closet is...nonexistant! My husband stole it for a media closet so I have to use our master bedroom closet as a linen closet. HOWEVER, it only has a bar running across one end currently (we are going to put in one of those fancy smanchy organization systems someday). So, everything is in those plastic tubs and in piles. SO FUN.
I wash my hair throughout the showering process. The last thing I do is rinse the conditioner out (although the last step really should be squeejeeing the glass but I figure my husband does it once a day so that should be good enough, right?).
Tonight? Probably sit at home with my husband and kids. Nothing too exciting but fulfilling nonetheless.
I sleep on my side normally but I LOVE LOVE LOVE sleeping on my stomach.
Poor Cab! I'm speechless!
We have two linen closets. Our tiny linen/toiletry closet in the bathroom was nicely organized a year ago when we moved in. Now it's kind of been taken over by my willy-nilly way of putting things away (but the towels are usually pretty neat). The closet in the hallway (where I keep the sheets/blankets) is ALSO the attic access. It was organized pretty well until the roof started leaking last fall and my husband had to get in the attic--thus taking down two of the shelves to get up there. The shelves haven't been replaced yet (nor has the roof!).
I wash my hair first (lately with a two-in-one shampoo so that I don't have to do the conditioner thing), do the general washing/shaving thing, then rinse last.
Tonight is pizza-and-a-movie night. We'll put in some Red Barons and watch Nightmare Before Christmas. :-)
I usually sleep on my right side (with pillow between knees) or my back (with pillow under legs). And if my husband and I were to swap sides, I would sleep on my LEFT side. For some reason, I like to sleep facing OUT. I used to be a tummy sleeper, but all those pregnancies/nursing years have cured me of it.
Yay for quiz Friday!
1. My linen closet is pretty organized. I'm a huge organizing dork.
2. I wash my hair first, then condition, then wash body (occasionally shave my legs) and then rinse conditioner. No deviation ever.
3. Tonight I'll stay in with TM - maybe order food in. I'm going to the ocean on Saturday with girl friends and I'm very very excited. Yay!
4. I sleep on my side mostly. I have no particular side preference.
Poor old Cab. Hope he perks up and behaves himself once he's past his ills. One of my cats has horrible flea allergies and I know how they bother the poor thing.
1. Very organized. You can find anything in seconds. All folded.
2. Wash hair first. Condition, rinse. Then wash bod with Aveeno hypoallergenic everything. Ditto lotion.
3. Since Mr. Pi works 2nd shift and I am alone until midnight, I will probably munch on whatever, see what's on (not much on Friday), so will end up reading and/or editing photos.
4. I sleep on my back in a semi sitting up position with pillows. No variance. This is because of a tear in a back disk. Sometimes I sleep in The Chair at the correct angle with the back pillow. Either way, there are always at least 1 cat involved.
Poor poor Cab! He is lucky to have found you.
Our linen closet is okay. I try to keep it presentable, esp with the potential for strangers coming to paw through our closets.
I wash my face first, then hair, then leave on conditioner while I shave legs and soap up, then rinse out conditioner. All done.
Tonight I will be waiting to see if my husband gets to come home, then catching up on Tivo that I've missed this week.
I sleep on my sides, mostly, usually with one cat curled next to my back and one next to my front so I cannot move.
First of all, I want to say, I'm totally with you on the "torture by displaying musical ignorance." Ever since I made my entire class laugh in 6th grade when I didn't know who Michael Jackson was (and this was the year of Thriller or whatever that hit album was--it was bad), the question "What music do you like" totally freezes me in my tracks.
Getting quizzed on my music knowledge would be 1000 times worse.
Anyways, so here:
1. I LOVITY LOVE LOVE having a linen closet--it's just so British or something--but ours is pretty much a death trap. I do have the kids' sheets placed toward the front for easy location in the dark after accidents etc.
2. Hair first.
3. Tonight: son's indoor baseball game (OMG THREE HOURS), and if we've got the stamina of wild horses then our lovely new Netflix offering, Knocked Up. More likely we will collapse into bed as soon as the kids have been confined to theirs.
My linen closet is also my bathroom closet, and while the towels are fairly organized, the rest of the crap falls on my head everytime I reach for my hairbrush. I'm the same as you in that I shampoo then condition, but let the conditioner sit while i wash/shave/sing, and then rinse. I also cannot change the order here. I sleep on my stomach and only my stomach, while the voice of my 5th grade teacher yells "sleeping on your tummy is bad for your back!"
tonight i'll probably watch tv and ignore the growing piles of whoknowswhat that are taking over my apartment!
1 - Linen closet is okay, but it is so tiny that there is also a big Rubbermaid chest-type thingy at the foot of one of the kids' beds where I keep their sheets and blankets, and my husband and I have another set of shelves in our closet for the towels and sheets for the master bedroom and bath.
2 - Hair first, then conditioner to sit while I wash everything else and any shaving that needs done.
3 - Tonight it's Mathapalooza with my 6-year-old at her school. This one I'm actually looking forward to, as I am a math geek and there are prizes involved.
4 - I sleep on my side, either one. I sleep on one until something is sore on that side (I need a new bed), then I wake up and flip over to the other side and sleep there until something gets sore on THAT side, then I repeat the process. I REALLY need a new bed.
Oh, I love your questions. They are so off the wall and really fun!
My linen closet is pretty tidy, but there are some random things thrown on the floor in there. Yikes.
Hair first, always first. I'm like you, I must do it all the same each time. Otherwise I forget something and it throws my whole day off.
Tonight, sitting at home on my butt. My husband won't be home until late, so it's just me and the boy. Boring.
I am a side-sleeper. Usually my right side. And I tend to find myself on my stomach during the night, but I always turn back to my side. I CAN NOT sleep on my back. Never could.
Have a fun weekend.
Aww, poor Cab!!!! And My he's a handful!
Ok, so here goes:
1. We do not even have a linen closet. I mostly use hubby's bottom dresser drawers, our changing table and a night stand for the linen storage.
2. Hair 1st. Then conditioner, let it soak while I wash and then rinse everything at once.
3. We are seeing Bee Movie tonight!
4. I am a back sleeper, mostly, with an occaisionl turn to the side. No matter how I sleep, my cat Sebastian is wrapped around my head.
Heh. I'm the Musical Inquisitor at my house. };)
My linen closet, like so much of my life, is horribly disorganized, except for one shelf, the one that has the towels on it. I wash my hair first, of course. I'm watching X-Files, waiting for my husband to come home from his long-distance job for the weekend. We'll take a nap curled up together, call out for a pizza with chicken and artichokes on it, and watch either a lot of Law & Order, or a lot of CourtTV, and later, The Soup (my husband's guilty pleasure, not mine). I sleep mostly on my left side, with my arm under the pillow, unless my shoulder is bothering me, in which case I'm on my back.
It feels strangely satisfying to be revealing these details of my life; I can tell you that normally I'm pretty reserved personally. Weird.
Cab is so lucky to have his new family!
1. I attmept to keep the linen closet tidy, but it is a losing battle. The Way Too Many Mismatched Towels win every time.
2. I wash my hair first. Always. If I try to change it up, I will actually forget to wash my hair. Then I just have wet, disgusting, smelly hair for the day.
3. Tonight? Either watching the Cowgirls or making homemade pizza.
4. I used to sleep in the fetal position with the covers tucked OVER my head, but I've finally grown out of the cover thing. Still sleep in the fetal position, usually on my left side.
Have a good weekend!
From what you've said about Cab it sounds like you guys picked an awesome dog (sometimes they just come with a few...uh....quirks!).
Linen closet - ha! I occasionally go in and organize it, but two of the cats are convinced that the stacks of bedding in there are for them. So usually I just give up and accept the disheveled mess.
Shower: Hair gets washed first, because then I can let the conditioner soak while I'm washing the rest of me. I have very dry hair - it needs all the help it can get!
Sleeping position: I usually sleep on my side, as this is how the cats have trained me over the years.
Okay, I'm late on this again, but here I am joining the game!
BTW, poor puppy! I'm sure he thanks your for fixing him up so nice. Even if he shows it by chewing on power cords and making a run for the door every once in awhile...
quiz answers--
-linen closet(s): very very messy. Problem is I never really completely unpacked or organized them when we moved in four months ago and so everything is just kind of thrown in there and when we need something we just rummage through and when we put something pack there's really no place specific to put it so it's just kind of all thrown in there and it's gotten so I just don't even know what we have anymore. I should probably get around to going thru those one of these days.
-shampoo, rinse, condition, wash body, shave, rinse conditioner. Never deviate.
-Well last night we rented Reign Over Me (really liked it!) and ate Junior Mints. Since I'm a day late and it's really Saturday now, I'll tell you tonight we're going to dinner and a hockey game. I'm excited about a night out!
-I sleep mostly on my side, kind of leaned to tummy, always with one arm under my pillow.
love these little questions... I think they're so fun and amusing to see everyone's different answers! Keep 'em comin!
Linen closet- medium level of tidiness. Nothing falls out on you, but it's certainly not ready to be photographed as an "After" picture for Real Simple's organizational feature or anything.
Hair- I always wash top to bottom, so first my face, then hair. I let my conditioner sit while I wash my body.
Tonight- probably a lot of nothing.
Sleep- On my back, usually. Which is another reason pregnancy sort of sucks for me towards the end. I HAVE to sleep on my side, which means I just DON'T sleep much.
Annoyingly, our linen closet is upstairs, while the master bedroom is downstairs, so I keep towels under the counter and sheets in a dresser drawer. But, if you were talking about the pantry I am so Sleeping With The Enemy. My husband and I are celbrating his saturday birthday all week since I will be gone visiting my sister in Alabama, so whatever he decides we will do! I prefer to sleep on my back hands folded neatly on my stomach (kind of creepy, but comfortable) :o)
Wash my hair first, always. Also, linen closet? I don't comprehend. My sheets & towels are stored randomly in closets and drawers and under the bed in plastic containers. I suck.
Also, I am not a fan of your blogging break. Come back! I miss you! (Because clearly this is about ME not YOU.)
